Atlanta Women's Specialists takes great pride in its 40-year tradition of providing and advancing women's healthcare. As your Atlanta Ob/GYN, our physicians and staff are committed to excellence and innovation in medical care. As your obstetric and gynecologic healthcare needs change over time - from yearly checkups and contraception to pregnancies and, eventually, menopause - we're ready to serve you.

In-Office Services

Atlanta Women's Specialists now offers convenient and cost-effective outpatient alternatives for procedures previously only performed in a hospital operating room. As in-office services, these procedures require a localized anesthetic, not general anesthesia, and therefore expose you to fewer medical risks. They also take less time, offer quicker recovery and usually cost less out of pocket.

Ablation Treatment for Abnormal Bleeding (Menorrhagia)

  1. Does your period last longer than seven days?
  2. Do you use more than three pads or tampons per day?
  3. Do you pass clots during your periods?
  4. Does your heavy bleeding affect your work, social, athletic or sexual activities?
  5. Has medication, such as birth control pills, failed to help your heavy bleeding?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, you may want to talk to your doctor at Atlanta Women's Specialists about heavy menstrual bleeding or Menorrhagia, and what can be done to help you.

In the past, common options were to wait until menopause or have a hysterectomy. Now we can offer a non-surgical option for pre-menopausal women who no longer want to get pregnant. During ablation, all or most of the tissue responsible for menstrual bleeding is destroyed. After the procedure, patients may never bleed again, or if they do, their bleeding is generally reduced.

Benefits of Ablation:

  • An alternative to hysterectomy or another major surgical procedure
  • An outpatient procedure performed in our office
  • Generally less time spent in recovery, usually you're back to normal activities in a day
  • Performed with local anesthesia, reducing risks associated with general anesthesia
  • Generally fewer significant harmful side effects
  • Generally fewer out of pocket costs

Essure Treatment for Permanent Birth Control

  1. Are you positive you no longer want to get pregnant?
  2. Are you worried about unplanned pregnancy?
  3. Are you tired of managing your temporary or hormone-based birth control?
  4. Do you want to avoid the incision, scarring or risks of other birth control procedures?
  5. Do you want more spontaneity in your sexual life?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, you may want to talk to your doctor at Atlanta Women's Specialists about permanent birth control with Essure.

Essure uses small flexible micro-inserts in your fallopian tubes that work with your body to create a natural barrier against pregnancy. Unlike forms of temporary birth control, Essure does not contain any hormones that can interfere with your monthly cycle. And unlike tubal ligation, Essure does not require any incisions.

Benefits of Essure:

  • An alternative to hysterectomy and other hormonal or surgical birth control
  • Covered by most insurance providers: when performed in our office, depending on your specific insurance plan, payment may be as low as a simple co-pay
  • Your doctor will verify when you can rely on Essure for birth control
  • Generally rapid recovery: most women return to their normal activities within one day
  • Effective: the only birth control method with zero pregnancies in clinical trials
  • Simple in-office procedure, involving no cutting and no general anesthesia, reducing associated risks
  • Generally quick procedure: Essure only takes about 60 minutes

Other In-Office Services

Atlanta Women's Specialists also provides many other services in our offices for added convenience. Your results are available to you faster and will be accessible 24 hours a day online through FollowMyHealth.
